The Pirates hockey team will be one of the youngest in the FRCC this year, but still has great potential to win the conference championship.

Bay Port hockey will be a tough team to face this year, as evidenced by the great young talent. Multiple sophomores will be in the starting rotation this year such as Sam Gustafson, Spencer Kring and Aaron Ribar. Colton Kimps, the sophomore goaltender, will also be a starter for the 2016-2017 season.

Junior defenseman, Matt Minch had some words about the young talent of the Pirates. “We are looking like a solid team so far. Lots of good things are happening right now in the preseason.”

The Pirates could make a deep run in the playoffs if they stay away from injury. Injuries hurt the Pirates in the middle of the season last year which stifled the Pirates regular season record. Fortunately, it didn’t affect them later that season, in the playoffs.

Gustafson also had some words to contribute to the topic. “We should be pretty good this year. We lost some good seniors last year but we got some young ones coming up. I have no questions about our chances this year.”
