Knocked off the throne.

Bay Port Girls lose first game in the season

As the the clock wound down to a zero and the loud buzzer went off, half of the gym was cheering, half was in disbelief and tears.

On Friday Jan. 8, the Green Bay Preble girls basketball team defeated the undefeated Bay Port Girls basketball team 61-53.

The loss was a blow to the Lady Pirates after a 20 game win-streak from the very beginning of the season.

Many fans were shocked at the defeat considering the girls had beat the Preble Hornets numerous time before.

“I feel like no one wanted to believe it was happening, and then it happened and we were all a little shaken,” said one fan.

The dreadful feeling of loss became evident on the players faces during the last minute of the game. Struggling to get a stop, the Pirates ended the game by fouling numerous times, allowing the Hornets to score multiple free throws.

“They looked a little shaken,” said sophomore Jenny Stankevich. “But they’re strong girls and they didn’t show to much emotion.”
