2019 Boy’s Baseball Preview

The Bay Port Baseball team just returned from their spring break trip to Florida. The season starts today, April 4 against the De Pere Redbirds. The team has been preparing for months.

In preparation for the season, the baseball team held open gym practices for the last several months and went to Florida to practice and to play other baseball teams.

The trip to Florida for the week gave the team an opportunity to get out of practices in the gym and to practice in nicer weather than Wisconsin. Their time in Florida allowed the team to get an extra week of practices in before the official start of the season.

“It was definitely different practicing in 80 degree weather compared to the gym,” said Andrew Slaasted, a junior baseball player who plays shortstop and third base. “We hit a lot during practice and worked on game type situations as much as we could so we will be ready for the games coming up.”

The varsity team this year is a younger team, which brings new aspects to the playing field and fans do not know what to expect this upcoming season.

“We have the talent to go far this year. I’m excited to see where we end up because I think we can do some damage in the regular season as well as playoffs,” said Slaasted.

The baseball team is more than ready with all of their preparation and new athletes to see what this season has in store for them.
