Achieving her dream job on the first try, Allyson Carvosky accomplished what many wish for. In a fortuitous chance, she was able to land her dream job straight out of college in the Howard-Suamico School District. Feeling comfortable and excited, Carvosky looks forward to beginning her art teaching career at Bay Port.
In the little town of Waupaca, Carvosky, like many other high school students, Carvosky didn’t have a clear plan for her future at first.
“I knew that I wanted to do something with education, but I wasn’t sure exactly what,” she said.
Luckily when she had the opportunity to take her first art class in high school, she was hooked.
“I wasn’t that great, but I really really loved it, so I kept taking art and I got better,” Carvosky said.
Coming into her senior year, she realized that she wanted to continue her art journey by combining her love of education and art, so she headed to UWGB for art education.
She student taught in Pulaski, followed by employment by this district.
“[The job is] kind of like a dream come true,” Carvosky said. “I didn’t think I was going to end up getting high school right away.”
However she felt lucky when she applied and got the position and has been enjoying it ever since.
Despite the cuts to art curriculum in schools, Carvosky knew that it was an important part of kids’ education. Many researchers have studied and proved the importance of art for students.
“The arts teach children that there are several paths to take when approaching a problem, and that all problems can have more than one solution,” said the Americans for the Arts program.
Finding her passion and pursuing it has indeed been a victory for Carvosky. Giving kids an outlet to express themselves, and find a break within their day, continues to motivate her to be the best she can be.
Carvosky concluded, “I hope that I can teach my kids how to continue to express themselves through art, how to problem solve, and how to find joy through art.”
