As senior Emma Lasecki gets in the water at her last high school swim meet at the State Championship, she thinks of her goals and dreams of being a state champion.
On November 16 2019, Emma Lasecki became the first swimmer in Bay Port’s history to win an event at state. Emma won the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.66 and the 100 meter fly with a time of 54.21. In her 200 IM she had the 8th fastest time in Wisconsin state history and in her 100 meter fly she was the 7th fastest in all of Wisconsin. Emma is also training for the Olympic trials, that will take place this June.
Emma has put in countless hours practicing to achieve her long term goal of winning state. She was able to meet her goal her senior year, which was also a huge motivation this year since it was her last chance to do it.
“It was exciting. It was definitely bittersweet because I was definitely very happy but it was also the last meet I will get to swim with all of my friends on the team,” Emma said.
Emma has been in swimming since she was 7 years old. She’s been swimming for 11 years and has always wanted to win a state title.
“I trained hard this season and did stuff outside of swimming, like dry land training, in order to prepare for state,” Emma said.
Emma and the rest of her team set goals this season, like to win conference and to do well at sectionals. They are proud to say that they met both of those goals, and they are proud of the season that they have had this year.
Emma plans to attend University of Wisconsin-Madison and major in Biology. She plans to swim for the Badgers. Her goals for the rest of her swim career are to focus on getting back into club season and get ready for the Olympic trials in June.
“Winning state felt really good,” Emma said. “It was definitely exciting for me as it had been a goal of mine since I had been a freshman so being able to win both of my events was very exciting for me and my teammates.”
